My name is Alyssa Pupino and I’m a newly minted registered dietitian. I got my Bachelor’s in nutrition from Ohio State University in 2013, and completed my Master’s and dietetic internship at Kent State University in 2015. My interest in nutrition stems from my love of cooking and eating. I find that the practice of nutrition is often so focused on what you can’t and shouldn’t eat, but my philosophy is to focus on both the enjoyment and the nourishment that food can provide.
I am currently working and living in Columbus, Ohio.
Check out my resume for an overview of my work experience, education, and more. In addition to my clinical expertise and counseling skills, I love to write and use social media to promote nutrition and healthy living. I’m currently working as a quality coordinator at Abbott Nutrition, which is a great way to combine my dietitian skills with everything I’ve learned from working so many years in customer service.
It’s not enough to just say that one of my hobbies is cooking because I love everything that goes into creating a meal – the selection of recipes, the grocery shopping, the chopping, dicing, sautéing, and then the enjoyment of sitting down and eating something delicious that you made from scratch. Besides food, I also love exploring new places and spending time with family and friends. In the interest of full disclosure, I’m also a big fan of binge-watching TV shows and taking naps. I’m also trying to become a better runner, so that’s something I hope will eventually be added to this list.
I think I could pretty much work anywhere, as long as there is a positive environment and a culture where employees can thrive and be successful. I need to know that the work I do is valued and appreciated, and that I can always go to higher-ups with suggestions and opinions on how to improve as an employee or as a department. One big dealbreaker for me is feeling like I’m being micromanaged but on the other hand, I definitely like knowing that I can talk to managers about the things that I feel are important.
